BEFORE KIDSENSES

Read the article Eat Like an Olympian
and summarize the 10 tips to eating for competition.

Use the Read Write Think - Brochure to report your findings in an informative brochure. Be sure to have a draft ready because you cannot save this document.

AT KIDSENSES

  • Take your brochure to KidSenses
  • Split your group in half. While at "Little Dollar General" half of you will shop like an Olympian and the other half will shop for the things you eat and like to eat.
  • Take a picture of both carts.
  • Choose two similar foods - one from each cart. Record the number of calories, fiber content and protein content from each.

AFTER KIDSENSES

Make a bar graph to record the number of calories, fiber and protein in each food using Creat-a-Graph.

Use Nutrition for Kids to create a day's menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for an Olympian. Be sure to use the recommended foods and serving sizes and what you have learned from the article you read.
